If only for a night, a hot-air balloon, yellow-brick carpet, and wicked-witch couture transformed Hollywood Boulevard into a scene out of the fantastical Emerald City. The wizard (James Franco), the witches (Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz, Mila Kunis), and a winged monkey (Zach Braff) dropped in for a magically wicked evening at the world premiere of Disney’s newest adventure, Oz The Great and Powerful.
D23 caught up with renowned film composer Danny Elfman to hear what Oz sounds like. “It sounds witchy, it sounds heroic, it sounds sneaky, and occasionally sounds fun and sometimes, maybe a little scary,” Danny says on the carpet. “This [Oz The Great and Powerful] was unique for me in that it all fell together so perfectly and easily for me. It was just one of those things that, it was almost so much fun working on it [that] I felt guilty getting paid for it.”
And an Oz film’s world premiere wouldn’t be complete without a hot-air balloon ride. Before he began his journey down the yellow carpet, actor James Franco—the great and powerful wizard of Oz—waved to fans from the sky as he rode a marvelous Oz The Great and Powerful-themed balloon down the middle of Hollywood Boulevard!
