Before they arrived at the El Capitan Theatre on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, D23 Members were only told that Disney Interactive was unveiling a new gaming initiative, and John Lasseter would be there. They had no idea that Disney’s most ambitious videogame initiative ever was about to be announced.
As the event began, John Lasseter arrived on stage in a signature Hawaiian shirt with a Disney print. This time it was Wreck-It Ralph themed. John and the Disney Interactive crew explained how the new videogame works, and how players will have unprecedented freedom and endless opportunity to create stories and play experiences starring their favorite Disney characters. Perhaps, for Disney fans, the best part of the announcement was that the videogame can evolve over time by collecting the interactive figures, which will be sold in stores. Initially, 17 characters will be introduced.
After the announcement, D23 Members were invited to an exclusive VIP reception across the street at the legendary Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. There, they enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch and had the chance to play Disney Infinity. And to call the day in Hollywood “a wrap,” everyone received a commemorative gift, created just for D23 Members in attendance.
