There have been a lot of announcements coming out of The Walt Disney Studios recently. From Marvel and Pixar to Disney Animation, DisneyToon Studios, Disneynature, and Touchstone (which releases films from DreamWorks Studios), the list grows and grows! And with some movies getting new U.S. release dates, we thought it a good time to check in with the team over at The Walt Disney Studios and get the latest and greatest calendar of releases.
It was mind boggling to find out that, over the next three years, 24 films have been announced so far! And that’s not including Star Wars: Episode VII, which was recently revealed through Disney’s newest studio, Lucasfilm. As the production teams get underway on these future films, we’ve broken them down for you by year. Enjoy this preview, and we’ll see you at the movies!
2013 Films
This year starts out with Disney’s visually stunning all-new adventure in the land of Oz. And did we mention that Sam Raimi of the Spider Man films is in the director’s seat? This year also has a compelling mix of great stories and new adventures. Marvel’s Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World carry on the Avengers saga with iconic superheroes and super celebrities… and new villains. Iron Man 3 introduces Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin. And we can’t wait for Disney’s next great animated adventure, Frozen, with the incredible Broadway voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. Saving Mr. Banks, opening in December, tells the untold backstory about the making of Mary Poppins. It stars Tom Hanks as Walt Disney! We think it will be pretty cool to see what they’ve done with the segments that were filmed in Disneyland and at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.

2014 Films
The Muppets are coming back!!! The whole gang is “together again” for a sequel to the 2011 film. This time it stars Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell; talk about a “modern family” of Muppets. We’ll also finally find out what made Maleficent so evil in the film named after the villain. It will explore her backstory and what drove her to curse little Aurora. Angelina Jolie has her work cut out for her—the Maleficent we know from the classic tale was pure evil! For an all-out battle between good and evil, Chris Evans returns in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Also, from Marvel, Guardians of the Galaxy will introduce us to an intergalactic league led by Rocket Raccoon.

2015 Films
While we don’t know too much about the films coming in 2015—they are still in the development and casting process—we are very excited about the recent announcement of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 as well as another Avengers film. Plus, Pixar’s film about the inside of the mind sounds pretty intriguing. And we’ve got another superhero addition with Ant-Man. We can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with those antennae on top of his head!
