D23′s Dateline Disney: 1983 (Sorcerer’s Apprentice game)

11.05.12 – In 1983, some 43 years after the theatrical debut of the animated classic Fantasia (and during an electrifying boom time in the world of arcade videogames), Atari released a Sorcerer’s Apprentice game.

The colorful video adventure stars Mickey Mouse (of course) who, with a player’s help, plucks stars out of the sky and eventually moves to another level and collects brooms to sweep away relentlessly rising water. Needless to say, Mickey stays quite industrious throughout the proceedings. With Wreck-It Ralph making a huge splash in theaters this weekend, it’s good to remember that Mickey’s résumé includes its share of videogame heroics. And Mickey’s timeless Sorcerer’s Apprentice segment returned to the big screen (and really big screens in Imax theaters!) in late 1999 and 2000 in Fantasia/2000.
