D23′s Disney Geek of the Week: Kim Smith

07.27.12 – D23 Member Kim Smith from Olympia, Washington, enjoys the full spectrum of Disney, from pirates and princesses to Stormtroopers, Mickey Mouse, and Monsters, Inc.’s feisty clipboard-carrying administrator, Roz.

This geek of the week is a woman of many talents, skills, and interests. Hailing from Olympia, Washington, D23 Member Kim Smith works as a float phlebotomist and is a special excursions planner for her region with Mensa International. She also, gardens, reads, builds humanoid robots, and practices Kung Fu (wow!). But what she enjoys most is taking time to dive into the magical and entertaining worlds of Disney. D23 recently caught up with Kim to hear about some of her favorite Disney experiences.

Quite the Trooper
“I would have to put being frisked by a Stormtrooper last summer pretty high on my favorite Disney moment list! I was walking through Tomorrowland with my mom and we happened upon a pair of Stormtroopers. One stopped and pointed his weapon at us. I apparently put my hand up and did a force push. In response he frisked me and checked under my mouse ears.”

Mouse House
“I would say my favorite Disney character is Mickey Mouse as he is, in many ways, Walt himself. I am especially interested in early history of the company and I adore the gallery on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland.”

Sharing is Caring
“I have also been a Disney shareholder for several years. I continually look to increase my holdings in the company. I take very seriously the responsibilities of being a shareholder with voting privileges and make sure to monitor company news and innovations.”

A Monster of a Gift
“One time while I was at Disneyland, Roz sang “Happy Birthday” to me on Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue. She changed the words to, “Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, you look like a monster and smell like one, too.”
