For his role as Luke Spencer on ABC’s General Hospital, Anthony Geary was honored with his seventh Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Lead Actor category, making him the most honored actor in Daytime Emmy history, breaking his own record. Nancy Lee Grahn was honored with her first Daytime Emmy for her portrayal of Alexis Davis in the Supporting Actress category with a previous win in 1989. For his role as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital, Jonathan Jackson took home his fifth Daytime Emmy award, his second as Outstanding Supporting Actor. Jackson is the youngest, most honored actor in Daytime Emmy history.
LIVE! with Regis and Kelly garnered its first win for Outstanding Talk Show – Entertainment in the 24-year history of the syndicated talk show. Hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa received their second consecutive award for Outstanding Talk Show Host.
One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award by Barbara Walters to her longtime producing partner Bill Geddie, Executive Producer of The View and The Barbara Walters Specials. In addition, there was a tribute to the daytime drama community past and present featuring six-time Daytime Emmy award-winner Erika Slezak, Daytime Emmy award-winner Susan Lucci and her former castmate Cameron Mathison.
The Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards were presented in Los Angeles. Winners of the 39th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards were announced live on the HLN Network on June 23 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were presented on June 17 at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles where the Disney/ABC Television Group won 9 awards.
