D23′s John Carter Premiere Screening Recap

02.24.12 – D23 Members—inches away from Hollywood celebrities and luminaries—joined The Walt Disney Studios in rolling out the red carpet for the world premiere of John Carter.

Featured in the video recap, D23 Members attend the John Carter world premiere with Disney and Hollywood luminaries Andrew Stanton, Dave Foley, James Purefoy, Bruce Boxleitner, Corbin Bleu, John Lasseter, Helen Mirren, Michael Giacchino, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Bryan Cranston, and Taylor Kitsch.

It was the first event of its kind in D23′s history, and another way to get Disney fans closer to the magic. Among filmmakers, the media, and some of Hollywood and Walt Disney Studios’ biggest names, more than 200 D23 Members got a front-row spot on the red carpet for the world premiere of Walt Disney Studios’ epic film, John Carter. The unprecedented event took place at L.A. LIVE’s Regal Cinema in Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday, February 22, 2012.

“Just being there was amazing,” said D23 Member Nanette Pittenger, who was dressed gorgeously in a magenta gown paired with a couture Mickey Mouse clutch purse, at the premiere. “It was great to see all the Disney celebrities turn out. We saw Disney Channel stars and ABC personalities, too.” Members experienced firsthand the limos, spotlights, and all the exciting traditions that come with a Hollywood film premiere.

After the glow of the red carpet, D23 Members picked up some complimentary popcorn and sodas—it wouldn’t be a movie-going experience without a buttery snack!—and headed into the dark theater where they received a D23-exclusive John Carter lithograph. And before the film began rolling in Disney Digital 3D, the man behind John Carter—Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, who’s also known for his work on WALL•E, Finding Nemo, and Up, among many other Pixar films and shorts—gave the D23 audience a warm welcome and thank-you for attending the premiere of his first live-action film. And as part of his appreciation for their support, three lucky D23 Members went home with a copy of Disney Editions’ soon-to-be-released book The Art of John Carter, signed by Andrew.

Thank you to all the D23 Members who attended and to Walt Disney Studios, who graciously invited us to the world premiere. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all.
