This dazzling scene of electronic turbulence took place on March 2, 2009 at the Meyer Werft shipbuilding factory in Papenburg, Germany during a festive steel-cutting ceremony honoring the building of two new ships for Disney Cruise Lines. The iron Mickey shown here was built as part of the Art Deco-inspired scrollwork that will grace the bow of one of the ships. When the two new ships eventually grace the high seas — scheduled for 2011 and 2012 — Mickey will stand proudly in the center of a design reminiscent of the classic ocean liners of the 1930s.
